Their presence is considered necessary in every game, labeled as the masters within the racetrack. From start to finish they call the shots, while paying attention to every riders racing for the crown. They are the Race Marshalls, the people behind the success of every event. Their officiating matters a lot, making tough decisions from different form of protest (if there’s any). The success of every event lies deeply on their hands, as riders facing difficult tracks, they too have encountered different protests riders hurled against them.
Patience and straightforward decisions are the basic traits a race marshal should perform in spite of the odds they come across. One of the most senior race marshal of the Ms Motosuit Motocross Series is Mc George Deiparine, a veteran rider himself who had gone through different motocross events during the 80’s and 90’s. For the love of the game he is still thrilled and get excited in every event, “ Bisan pa sa kadugay na nako sa pagka-race marshall sa motocross, excited gihapon kaayo ko nga motan-aw sa mga lumba, malingaw ko magtan-aw sa mga riders karon nga ako pang mga nakauban kaniadto dihang nag-apil apil pa ko sa motocross, mga bata pa kaayo na sila kaniadto”, as he reveals and reminisced the yesteryears in his passion in motocross racing. They are the living eyewitness of the success and failures of every riders dream of becoming a champion. Also visible in the race track is Mr. Jimboy Opone, a motorcycle mechanic genius, a former motocross rider, plays a very important role in the event. He is the man frequently seen on the starting area raising the 15 minuter indicator to start the race and as the chequered flag man in the finish line, “Kinahanglan abtik gyud ka, unya nahilig sab nako ang motocross , sige sab ko og apil og motocross kaniadto apan human ko madisgrasya gipa-undang nako sa akong asawa, so concentrate ko sa akong motoshop karon,” Jimboy added that his passion in motocross racing is still in the back of his mind, “Kabalikon baya gyod ko og lumba pero din na gyod mosugot ang akong wife, pero sige lang kay sa akong pagka race marshal karon akong nakita akong kaugalingon sa ubang mga riders nga naningkamot gyod nga modaug sa lumba.
But a figure to reckon with is Mr. Caloy Aguilar a veteran trail rider, he is the Chief Race Marshall, he has the power to prevent any rider from joining the race if he finds anyone going against the rules and regulations of the race. He usually do the scoring, and that’s what make his task more difficult, “Kanang protest sa mga riders common nalang gyod na kaayo nako, ang uban mo-insister gyud nga sila ang sakto, pero naa man sad tay jury nga maoy mohatag sa ilang final nga desisyon sa mga lisod sulbaron nga protest,” saying that being the captain of the game you have to detached your self from close allays,”Hapit tanan ako nang mga kaila og suod nga mga higala, pero inig abut sa lumba patas na gyud silang tanan”.
But what matters most to the race marshals is the camaraderie among the team managers and riders, the experience that will last for a life time in this death defying event. ROP
